A great leader of India

A GREAT LEADER OF INDIA
or MAHATMA GANDHI

or YOUR IDEAL MAN OF HISTORY

or A NATIONAL LEADER

“Some are born great, some achieve greatness and have greatness thrust upon them”

Mahatma Gandhi achieved greatness through truth and non-violence. In the beginning we see him as an average student and then an average advocate. But later on he rose to be the greatest leader of India.

Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 at Porbandar in Kathiawar. His full name was Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. He completed his early education at a school of his village. He was an ordinary student. He was married to Kasturba at the age of 13. He passed High School Examination in 1887 and went to England to study law. In 1891 he returned to India and started practice in Mumbai. But he was not very successful in his profession.

In 1893 he had to go to South Africa in a law suit of some Muslim traders. But he was very much grieved to see the miserable condition of Indians living there. They were called coolies by the English people and were insulted everywhere. So he decided to improve the miserable condition of Indians and started non-violence movement . He got success in it and returned to India in 1914.

After a long struggle and many movements he could liberate India on 15th August, 1947 . But unfortunately on the demand of Muslim League, India was divided into two parts. The communal riots took place in the whole country. Gandhiji advised Hindus and Muslim both to live like brothers. He did much to remove untouchability from the society . He wanted to improve the condition of the poor and downtrodden people of India.

But on January 30, 1948 at 6 pm, when he was going to Birla Mandir, a young man named Nathu Ram Godse shot him dead. He fell down upon the ground saying ‘Hey Ram, hey Ram’. Not only India but the whole world sank into grief to hear about his death. Although he is not alive today physically but spiritually he will always remain alive in our hearts. He will be remembered for his love for untouchables and poor people.
