  Operating System -

Operating system is the media through which you communicate with the Computer system. You can not do any work without operating system. Operating system is the first program to be loaded into the Computer memory, before any other processing. Operating system also handles memory, CPU, |-O (Input-Output) device and controls all execution of application programs.

Different Operating System available in to the market-

Ms-DOS, Ms-Windows, UNIX, LINUX.

 Work of Operating System -

                    Operating System handles main three type work-

 >  It Check the all input & output device and tells the fault for any device, which can't work properly. It is called POST (Power on Self Test).

>  Operating system gets the computer in ready position, Where you can work start. It is called Booting. Booting is the process of starting a computer.

>  It converts the language in English to Binary and Binary to English. Because computer work in Binary language, but user can't understand this language.

 Types of Operating system -

1-  Single User Operating System                                     Example: MS-DOS

2-  Multi User Operating System                                      Example: MS-Windows,

 Introduction -

Windows is a multi user operating system. We can connect internet through this software. Windows is a G.U.I (graphics use interprets).

Version of Windows :- 3.1, 95, 98, 2000, 2003, ME, NT, XP, Vista, 7.

 WHATS IS A WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL -

Windows XP professional is the latest version of the Windows NT family of operating system.
Windows XP Professional is designing for business user and Window XP Home for consumers
or home uses.

 WHAT IS NEW IN WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL -

Some of the features are discussed below-

  1)  Easier Installation and Updating :-

        Window XP includes several features to make it easier to install and keep up to date. These             includes dynamic update and Windows update; the file and setting transfer wizard for a                 variety of tasks; a wider selection of divide drivers; simplified installation for multifunction           devices; and effective uninstall back to Window 98 and Windows me.

   2)  Dynamic Update and Windows Update :-

         When you are going to install Windows XP, one of the forts new features that you'll notice
         that dynamic update, which offers you at the time of downloading to install latest patches,
         packages, and fixes and install them so that you copy of windows XP is up to date.

   3)  More Wizard to Make Easier :-

        Welcome to the network transfer wizard, which provides effective configuration of Windows
        network and internet connection sharing and the two hardware wizard, add hardware 
        wizard and the found new hardware wizard.

     

  4)  More Device Drivers :-

       For more devices drivers there is a better chance then another version of windows (Windows
       98, Windows me or Windows 2000) that when you plug in a new device automatically
      Windows XP will be able to load the drivers and get it working properly. Otherwise, For more
       better you can install these devices with the help of proper drive which comes with drvice.

  5)  File and Setting Transfer Wizard :-

       Files and setting transfer wizard provides  a way of transferring files and stting from one 
       computer on the same computer but will still need to re-install your entire program on the 
      new computer.

  6)  Effective Un-install back to Windows 98 and Windows me :-

       Windows XP have a great features, an effective uninstall features for rolling back the 
       Windows XP installation to your previous installation of Windows 98, Windows 98 second
      edition and Windows me, but you can't revert from Windows NT and Windows 2000.

   7)  Redesigned Start Menu :-

       Windows XP sports a redesigned start menu that's supposedly easier and quicker to use.
       The default "Start Menu" designed for Windows XP is look different from other version
       Of Windows 9X.

   8)  Eye Candy :-

        Windows XP has a feature to define your pictures as a screen saver slide show. This is the 
        prime example of eye candy and if your computer's hardware tends to cool rather then hot.
       You may find the eye candy exact an unacceptable performance penalty.

   9)  Taskbar Changes and Enhancements :-

        Windows XP includes a number of several options on taskbar but you can change the 
        taskbar behavior back to how it was in previous version of Windows.

   10)  Windows Media Player Version 8 :-

         Windows media player is a combination of video and DVD player, an internet radio turner,
         and jukebox for playing and organizing digital audio files such as MP3 files.

   11) Windows Movie Maker :-

         These packages are use for capturing video, editing video and audio, also creating video 
         files in the Windows media format.

   12)  CD Buring :-

        CD burning capabilities are built in Windows XP. You can create a CD from Windows 
        explorer and also create from Windows player.

   GRAPHICAL USER INTERFACE (GUI) :-

     Now a day everywhere you are getting pictorial representation of each item, like hoarding
banner, parking instruction, traffic signals etc. Because pictorial presentations are independent
from language so that any kind of person can understand the matter very easily and quickly 
without the help of interpreter. Software developers have opted the advantage of this graphical
representation to make understandable software or file or folder to the user. An presently all 
user and most of the users are going for the same. This features is known as Graphical User
Interface (GUI).

   Difference Between MS-DOS and Windows XP :-

  1)  MS-dos supports Character User Interface (GUI) where Windows supports Graphical User Interface (GUI).
  2)  MS-DOS is very much cryptic to memorize proper syntax of each and every command, but Windows provides user-friendly menu driven easy interface to internet.
  3)  MS-DOS supports Single Take means at a time you can execute only one application, but Windows allows running Multiple Tasks simultaneously.
  4)  MS-DOS does not support plug 'n' play and OLE (object Linking and Embedding) but Windows supports the same.
